B.S. Business Communication

Expected Graduation: May 2024

My name is Grant DeVivo. I was born in South Korea as Suk Hoon Kim, but I was adopted when I was four months old and I now reside in Westminster, Maryland...as Grant, of course.

I am currently a senior business communication major at Stevenson University in Owings Mills, Maryland. In the future, I would like to build my foundation around baseball. I would love to be a play-by-play broadcaster, though sports journalism is a realistic life goal as well. I have internship experience with Glenn Clark Radio as a summer production intern, and I also have internship experience with the Baltimore Orioles and their corporate partnerships.

I serve as the sports editor for our student newsletter, The Stevenson Villager. As the editor, I oversee all of our sports writers, editing drafts and working with my colleagues to share important news, headlines, and stories within Stevenson Athletics. I have been well trained and tutored by my edior in chiefs, Micah Earnest and Leah-Bayley Hay, and my advisors, Mr. Jeffrey Browne and Mr. Jack Gilden, in journalistic writing and blogging. I love communicating and storytelling through journalistic writing, which is what I aim to do with "Learning To Fly." I have been well prepared for an opportunity like "Learning To Fly" and I am thrilled to be here communicating with you all, my viewers and fellow Orioles fans.

Mount Saint Joseph High School

Background in Baseball

I have been playing baseball since I was 9-years old. In the early stages of my playing career, I bounced back and forth between the Westminster Baseball Association and travel baseball. After a couple of years playing at the prestigious and well-known baseball program at Mount Saint Joseph High School, I landed with Stevenson Club Baseball. I have been with them ever since. I am a catcher and thirdbaseman, and I am a co-captain for the Mustangs.

Over the years, I have learned the game from many different perspectives and viewpoints. Some names that I have had the pleasure of learning under are Matt Morris (owner, The Baseball Warehouse), Jim Crowley (son of Orioles legend Terry Crowley), Val Majewski (former Orioles outfielder), Troy Stokes Jr. (former Pirates outfielder), and Austin Wynns (current Reds catcher). Through my own growth, through their teachings, and through seeing the game evolve, I have developed a strong love and knowledge for the game. I love sharing my passion for baseball and I plan on continuing to grow it without ever letting go.

What do you like about the Minor League community?

It's a small-town feel, and I love being in the smaller crowds with a tight group of fans who love the game just like me. I love how close we are to the action, the prospects on the rise, and I love being able to interact so closely with the players and coaches. I've made some great friends over the years and I've had some memorable conversations with many guys. I love Minor League ball with a passion, and I do not hesitate to share that.

What is your favorite memory at a Minor League Baseball game?

I remember seeing the Bowie Baysox clinch a playoff spot in 2021. Gunnar Henderson was playing, Cody Roberts had a big game-winning RBI late in the game, and Grayson Rodriguez was there celebrating. It was a happy day overall, and I'm glad my mom and I got to watch a special moment for those guys.
