On Tuesday, the Aberdeen Ironbirds announced that Orioles outfielder Colton Cowser would begin a rehab assignment for the team.
Cowser was initially set to appear for the Ironbirds yesterday. However, the evening match up between the 'Birds and the Wilmington Blue Rocks was postponed due to inclement weather. Thus, his rehab assignment has been pushed back to tonight.

Cowser has been out since the Orioles' opening series at the Toronto Blue Jays after he broke his thumb diving head-first into first base.
The Orioles offense ranks in the lower third of baseball as their team OPS (.686) and their team batting average (.232) sit at No. 23 and 24 perspectively. The closer that Cowser gets to returning to their lineup, the bigger a boost the struggling offense gets. Still, he cannot be activated off the Injured List until May 30.
Cowser, 25, was the Orioles' first round pick in 2021 out of Sam Houston State University. After a rough showing in a cup of coffee in the big leagues in 2023 (.115 BA), he broke out in 2024 as an everyday contributor and the beloved "Milkman."
He finished as the American League Rookie of the Year runner up after posting a .768 OPS, 24 home runs, 68 RBI, and 24 doubles. On defense, he made just one lone error all season in the outfield and posted an incredible .997 fielding percentage. He finished as the runner up to New York Yankees staring pitcher Luis Gil.
Cowser was off to a 2-for-16 start to the season with a home run and two runs scored before the injury occured. When he takes the field tonight, it will be his first game action since then. There is no time frame for how long Cowser will need to be with Aberdeen or where his next rehab destination is. Needless to say, he will most likely end up at either Chesapeake or Norfolk as he looks to pick up reps at the plate.
