Aron Estrada had himself a June to remember.

The 19-year-old from Caja Seca, Venezuela, was batting a modest .253 with a .671 OPS through May which at the time, was most likely towards the top of the team's offensive categories as they struggled to find offense. He decided to kick his 2024 campaign up a notch once the calendar flipped to June.

As a result, the Shorebirds found a leader in their lineup, and Estrada was recognized as the Carolina League's Player of the Month for June.

He hit .356 with a .416 on-base percentage and a .589 slugging percentage. That combined for a dazzling 1.005 OPS. He showed off his speed by stealing 11 bases and he collected 4 home runs, 15 RBI, 7 doubles, and 20 runs scored.

He reached base in 20 of the 24 games that he played in June, and he only struck out 15 times.

It was a refreshing thing for the Shorebirds to see given that the team collectively by June was looking for something or someone to spark plug the offense and motivate the lineup. Estrada was by far their hottest bat in June, and it is fair to say that his play was a big reason why the Shorebirds turned things around in June and put together a 14-12 record, their first winning record in a single month this season.

So far in July, Estrada has picked up right where he left off. In 6 games, he is 8-for-22 (.364) with a home run, 3 RBI, a 1.031 OPS and 2 stolen bases.

Let us also remember too that Estrada is very young. At 19 years of age, he is going through a year of change and culture shock as he plays his first season away from the Dominica baseball complexes and Florida Leagues down in Sarasota, Florida, and is now fully endulged in affiliated Minor League Baseball in Delmarva.

What Estrada is doing is truly brave, impressive, and difficult all at the same time.

It is a great start to a young and promising career, and the month of June 2024 will be one that this young man will not forget anytime soon. The Orioles may have something here in Estrada. He is not currently ranked in theOrioles' Top 30 prospects according to MLB Pipeline but if he keeps this pace up and in the coming years, he will surely enter those prospect rankings.

Congratulations, Aron!
