Each Orioles Minor League affiliate has set their coaching staff for the 2025 season

The Baltimore Orioles and their Minor League affiliates have announced their coaching staffs for the 2025 season. While many coaches are staying in place, some are receiving promotions to a new level while a former big league backstop is taking over the reigns in Norfolk for Buck Britton, who was promoted to the Orioles' big league coachig staff.

Let's break down what each affiliate's coaching staff will look like this seaon.

Norfolk Tides

There are some shoes to fill in at Norfolk with the departure of Buck Britton, the 2023 championship skipper who was promoted to Brandon Hyde's coaching staff at the big league level. In doing so, the Orioles will assign Federowicz to take over the reigns in his first season in Birdland. Federowicz comes over after two previous stints managing at Triple-A, one with Tacoma (Seattle Mariners) in 2022 and another last year with Toledo (Detroit Tigers). Toledo went 69-80 under Federowicz last year. Not long ago, he completed a 13-year big league career that saw him become a well-traveled catcher for six different teams. He had a .985 career fielding percentage behind the dish and caught 54 runners stealing.

Ramsey and Montville retain their previous roles from last year with the Tides. Alou Jr. is being promoted after having previously managed the Ironbirds for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Facteau is getting his first look at Triple-A after spending the last three seasons bouncing back-and-forth from Chesapeake and Aberdeen. Former Tides fundamentals coach Ramon Sambo has been assigned to the same role for the Florida Summer League Orioles in Sarasota, Florida. Former development coach Joshua Rodrigues is out of the Orioles' organization entirely.

The Tides will keep Alan Rail as their athletic trainer and Seth Ellanson as the assistant athletic trainer. Sam Sauer has been promoted from Chesapeake to serve as the strength and conditioning coach. Adam Sehlmeyer returns as clubhouse manager.

Chesapeake Baysox

The Baysox' coaching staff will look like this in 2025.

Mercado will enter his second season with the Baysox and his fourth overall in the Orioles organization. After compilling a 144-117 record for the Ironbirds from 2022 to 2023 and after helping the team obtain a South Atlantic League divisional championship in 2022, he got his first look at Double-A baseball last year. The Baysox finished to a 62-75 record, but they finished with some of the top pitching numbers in the Eastern League. Their 3.79 ERA and 1.25 WHIP were fourth best in the league. Top prospects like Samuel Basallo, Dylan Beavers, and Jud Fabian, benifited from Mercado's leadership before late-season promotions to Norfolk. All three of them played for Mercado when they were all together in Aberdeen.

Mercado will have much of the same coaching staff that he had with him in 2024. Bunslemeyer and Sebby retain their same roles from the previous year. Henry is promoted from Aberdeen, while Christiansan joines from Delmarva. Austin Meine, who served as the Baysox' pitching coach last year, was not reassigned to a new role in the Orioles organization.

This will be Goll's first managerial oportunity, and it is a well-deserved opportunity for a coach who has worked his way up in the system and has been well-respected by his peers these past several years. Goll joined the Orioles organization prior to the 2020 season with exclusive coaching experience in other top tier baseball programs including the University of Minnesota. From 2022 up through last season, he bounced back-and-forth between Aberdeen and Chesapeake as a fundamentals coach. Now, as Alou Jr. departs for the Tides, Goll will get his golden opportunity at the helm of a professional organization.

Cole will return for his third season as the hitting coach for the 'Birds. The rest of the coaching staff are first-time Ironbirds. Hileman and Smith are entering their first seasons in the Orioles organization. Fajardo is being plucked from Delmarva after having previously served as the Shorebirds' fundamentals coach. Juan Sanchez will travel from Delmarva as well and serve as the strength and conditioning coach. Herb Otto will return for his second season as the Ironbirds' clubhouse manager, and Tori Atencio will return for her second season as the athletic trainer.
