The Double-A Chesapeake Baysox have announced that left-hander Trevor Rogers is joining the team for a rehab assignment. He is scheduled to start tomorrow morning's home contest against the Altoona Curve.

Rogers is recovering from a right knee subluxation that occured in January. This sidelined him for all of Spring Training and as was expected, he was announced "not ready" for Opening Day. When he toes the rubber for Chesapeake tomorrow, it will be his first game action of the season.
There are no further details as to how many starts Rogers will need with the Baysox. There is also no firm answer as to what happens to him once his rehab assignment is complete. He will either be assigned to Triple-A Norfolk or he will be brought up to the Orioles' starting rotation. Seeing that the Orioles' rotation is succumbing to injuries and the IL, he might be needed in the rotation.
Rogers was acquired by the Orioles last summer at the trade deadline from the Marlins in exchange for former top prospect outfielder Kyle Stowers and rising star infielder Connor Norby. The 2021 All-Star enjoyed a comfortable five-year tenure with the Fish that saw him post a 4.23 ERA, a 1.385 WHIP, and a 3.75 FIP in well over 400 innings as a Marlin.
The Orioles sought an opportunity to bring in a young lefty with multiple years of control in Rogers. His Orioles tenure got off to a rough star upon arrival as in four starts, he was tagged for 25 hits and 15 earned runs while walking 10 batters. This resulted in a demotion to the Tides, where he has been since while battling the knee injury.
Now, Rogers will ramp up his recovery as he looks to earn his way back into the Orioles' rotation. His first stop is Chesapeake, where he will throw tomorrow. As is common in Major League rehab assignments for pitchers, he will most likely be on an innings limit or pitch count. That will most likely be around two or three innings, and pitch counts vary on how a pitcher feels physically and what progress he has made previously in his recovery.
Rogers and the Baysox take the field tomorrow morning in the friendly confines of Prince George's Stadium at 11:05 am. Purchase tickets to tomorrow morning's game here.
